Two out of five married couples are keeping their families in the dark when it comes to their plans for passing on wealth, new research suggests.

Inheritance Tax receipts rose by £400m year on year to £3.9bn in the latest half year from April to Sept - continuing the rapid upward trend seen in recent years, according to the latest data from HMRC.

A group of 55 senior Tory MPs including former Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi have called for inheritance tax to be abolished.

The government's inheritance tax (IHT) haul for the 2022/2023 tax year reached £7.1bn - £1bn higher than the record seen in the previous year.
