Mr Horner, chief executive of Paradigm Norton Financial Planning, will serve a four year term on the Board of Directors starting in April 2012. He is the immediate past President of the Institute of Financial Planning.
Corinna Dieters, chairperson of the FPSB Board of Directors, said: “Barry Horner’s experience operating a Financial Planning firm with multi-national ownership, coupled with his non-profit governance experience with the IFP, gives him a unique perspective that reflects a best in Financial Planning professionalism.”
Mr Horner started his career in accountancy before founding Paradigm Norton in 2001 which he transitioned from a commission-based model to a fees for service model.
Mr Horner said: “I believe in Financial Planning and the power that good Financial Planning has to make a profound difference in people’s lives. I am pleased to bring my enthusiasm and experience to help the FPSB gain recognition for Financial Planning as a distinct, global profession.”
Also elected to the board was Tim Kochis CFP, president of international ventures at US-based wealth management firm Aspiriant.
The current FPSB board consists of Karen Schaeffer CFP, Corinna Dieters, Noel Maye, Luiz Maia, Peeyush Gupta, Robert Hotchkiss, Prem Govender CFP, Steve Helmich, Jane Wheeler CFP (also a former IFP President), Tom Cross Brown and Ian Johnston.
The FPSB is the owner of the CFP marks and works to promote global excellence in Financial Planning. It has 24 member organisations, including the IFP, worldwide.
