The Just Giving Page set up in memory of Mr Morrison by his widow Rita is raising money for Daisy's Dream, a charity set up to raise money for children and families coping with bereavement. The initial target of £5,000 has now been more than doubled (as of 27 Nov) with over £10,000 raised so far and many of Mr Morrison’s many friends and colleagues making contributions and leaving messages of condolence and support for the family and the charity campaign.
One of the latest donations is from the directors at Manchester wealth managers Duncan Torevell who wrote: "We enjoyed many stimulating roundtable discussions with Mike in our office, such a tragic loss. Our thoughts are with you both."
Mr Morrison died suddenly at home after suffering from a brain haemorrhage on 6 November, leaving wife of 25 years Rita and daughter Sophie, aged 10. He had been working from home until shortly before his unexpected death.
On the JustGiving page Mrs Morrison writes: “My truly unique husband of 25 years passed away unexpectedly following a brain haemorrhage. We have a remarkable 10 year old daughter who he was extremely proud of.”
Among the other comments on the JustGiving page are one from Mike Barrett who wrote: “I hugely admired Mike, for his peerless knowledge on all things pensions, his exceptional musical tastes, but most of all for the way he conducted himself. One of the nicest guys I’ve ever met.”
Stephen Graham wrote: “Mike was a uniting force for good and his good deeds will be continued in memory of someone who redefined the term Mr Nice Guy.”
Tributes poured in for Mr Morrison and his family following his untimely death. Delegates at AJ Bell's Investival event soon after his death applauded the life of one of the UK’s leading pensions expert. AMPS, the trade body for SIPPs and SSAS providers, also saluted the life and contribution to the industry of the pensions expert and former AMPS chairman.
Zachary Gallagher, chairman of AMPS, said: “The Association of Member-Directed Pension Schemes will forever remember Mike as a man of great energy, commitment and humour in advancing the interests and concerns of the industry he served with such distinction over such a long period of his life. Mike had a rare talent for expressing complex subjects in a straightforward and compelling way, and he used this talent to great effect in his work for AMPS, at a time when pensions was going through fundamental change.”
Mr Morrison, apart from being a regular contributor to Financial Planning Today, was also a columnist for Financial Planning Today's sister website SIPPs Professional where his columns attracted substantial audiences and often sparked debate.
