Forty-six firms have so far signed up to provide free Financial Planning surgeries worth up to £500 to consumers.

Financial Planning Week, run by the CISI, will take place from 8 to 12 May, in a bid to boost understanding of the profession.

It is a continuation of the initiative started by the Institute of Financial Planning, before it merged with the CISI.

During last year’s campaign, Financial Planning firms gained three or four new ‘million pound clients’, the CISI reported in November.

This year’s Financial Planning Week will be spearheaded by CISI leading Accredited Financial Planning Firms. They and others will be offering a mix of:

•Free consultation surgeries, either in person, via Skype or over the phone. These one hour consultations are worth up to £500, said the CISI, and are being offered by CFPTM professionals throughout the UK, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

•Answering consumer questions on our ‘Ask a Planner’ online via the Wayfinder website.

•Talks to schools across the country about the merits of the financial planning profession.

The 46 firms signed up for free surgeries so far includes nine regional offices of Mazars, an Accredited firm.

Consumers will be able to book their free sessions online, review tips and tools and learn more about how true financial planning can be a life changing experience. The CISI has a dedicated webpage with the contact details and logos of all the firms involved which will then lead through to the Wayfinder website.

Ian Painter APFS FCSI CFPTM of Affinity Integrated Wealth Management, Kent said: “We are here to support people with the big questions in life, for example when can I afford to retire? Most of us don’t take time to think about these or even know where to begin. Issues such as making sure family are ok, that you can afford to do the things you want to and protect what you have.”

Jacqueline Lockie CFPTM Chartered FCSI, CISI deputy head of Financial Planning, said: “This year I hope we can make Financial Planning Week 2017 just as exciting and effective as ever. Financial Planning Week represents a national initiative to bring financial planning to the consumer forefront.

“Our aim is to help the UK public draw up their own, personal, financial master plan, incorporating all of life’s milestones, whether that be preparing for retirement, buying a home, or starting a business. This is something everyone can benefit from.
“I’m excited that we have lots planned and would love for everyone to get behind us and make it a success for the benefit of the public. Let’s put something back, do the right thing, and help people understand how to take control of their finances, whatever state they may be in.”

Duncan Hannay Robertson CFPTM who runs Hannay Robertson Financial Planning in Cambridge, had this message for consumers. He said: “It doesn’t take much to get financially organised. We owe it to ourselves and our families to try to understand our finances.

“Even if you’ve gone off-track, a Financial Planner can help take the weight off your shoulders and save you from those money management worries we all experience at varying points in our lives.”
