The FSCS has declared Yorkshire adviser firm Barfield Associates Limited (FRN: 116531) in default after receiving two claims, both relating to pensions advice.
One of the claims has now been upheld by the FSCS resulting in the 'default' declaration.
A default declaration means the firm can not meet claims against it.
The default opens the door for the industry-funded consumer compensation net to pay up to £85,000 per claim to ex-clients with successful claims.
Barfield Associates was based in Otley, near Leeds, Yorkshire.
The FCA register shows the firm ceased to be authorised after June 2010.
The FCA register also shows that 10 registered individuals worked for the firm, including several senior CF1 directors.
The company was voluntarily struck off the Companies House register in 2016.
• Separately, consumer-buy-to let company Skipbo Limited (FRN: 418829) (formerly Ring Associates Limited) was listed as failed by the FSCS this week.
